Pharmaceutical Crops
Pharmaceutical crops are plants which are genetically modified to produce pharmaceuticals and biopharmaceuticals such as vaccines and antibodies. These plants are used to produce medicines and treatments without the need for costly animal cell culture or synthetic chemical processes. Pharmaceutical crops can be grown in fields, making mass production of therapeutic compounds possible. They offer a renewable source of essential compounds and reduce the risk of contamination from animal cell cultures and synthetic processes. Pharmaceutical crops can also be used to produce drugs with shorter production cycles and lower production costs. They are an important tool for the production of new medicines, helping to reduce the cost of health care and improve access to treatments.
