Marine Botany

Marine botany is the study of plant life in a marine environment. It has significant implications for the health and productivity of coastal and marine ecosystems. Marine botany includes the study of species, distributions, and the natural environment of marine algae, seagrasses, and macrophytes (e.g. mangroves and coral) as well as their roles in the ecosystems they inhabit. Marine botanists apply their knowledge to aid in the management of coastal and marine resources, such as promoting conservation, protecting endangered species, and preventing invasive species. They also aid in monitoring the health of marine environments, which can be used to inform policies and regulations, including sustainable fishing practices and climate change mitigation.
