Horticulture

Horticulture is the science and art of cultivating plants. It involves cultivating fruits, vegetables, ornamentals, and herbs, and understanding the ways they interact with their environment. Horticulture also encompasses soil and water management, plant nutrition and pest management. The benefits of horticulture include improved nutrition, increased yields, improved quality of life, and improved environmental sustainability. In many developing countries, horticulture can be used to increase income for small family farms. Horticulture also helps preserve natural habitats, protects biodiversity, and provides shade, windbreaks, and wildlife habitats.
