Forensic Botany
Forensic botany is the study of plant life and its role in criminal cases. Its uses may include the use of plants to detect the presence of toxic substances, to help establish timeframes related to a crime, and to identify the type of soil present at a crime scene. It may also be used to prove a defendant’s innocence or guilt by studying the plants present at the scene of the crime. Forensic botany can help reconstruct the crime scene, determine the point of origin of evidence, and trace the movements of a suspect or victim. Forensic botany is an essential tool for criminal investigators, as it can provide valuable insight into the evidence at hand and help to prove or disprove theories about the crime or the perpetrator.
