Biogeography

Biogeography is the study of the geographical distribution of living organisms on Earth. It is a multidisciplinary field which integrates ecology, evolutionary biology, geology, climatology, and other sciences to understand the causes and consequences of natural and human-induced patterns of biodiversity throughout time. The main aim of biogeography is to understand how species interact with their environment through space and time in order to gain a better understanding of evolutionary processes, the conservation of biodiversity, and changes to the environment. Biogeography also provides us with invaluable information on the vulnerability of species and ecosystems to human-induced environmental changes.
