Wildlife Forensic Science

Wildlife forensic science is the application of scientific techniques and technologies to aid in the investigation of illegal activities related to wildlife species and products. It is a relatively new field that draws on the skills and methods used in the forensic examination of crime scenes and other evidence to uncover the sources and perpetrators of illegal wildlife trafficking and trade. Wildlife forensic science can help to identify different species, determine the origin of wildlife products, and inform the prosecution of wildlife crime cases. It also can be used to trace the origin of illegally trafficked wildlife products, help in the implementation of effective management plans and aid in the enforcement of wildlife conservation laws. By enhancing the investigation into wildlife crime and providing more detailed evidence, wildlife forensic science has become an essential tool in the fight against illegal wildlife trade.
