Forensic Applications
of Voiceprints Voiceprints, a type of biometric signature, are recordings of the human voice that can be used to positively identify people. It is similar to fingerprints in the sense that it is created from unique physical characteristics of individuals and can be used to prove or disprove identity. Forensic voiceprint analysis is the application of voiceprints for use as evidence in criminal or civil investigations. It is done by comparing the spoken words of a suspect or witness with pre-recorded conversations. By measuring the frequency and amplitude of certain phonemes in the spoken words, forensic experts can determine if it is the same person speaking in both recordings. This technology has been used to identify criminals, link victims to crimes, and assist in the investigation of potentially fraudulent transactions. Through the use of voiceprints, forensic investigators can now use audio recordings as evidence in criminal cases. It is an immensely helpful tool for law enforcement and can be used to quickly and accurately determine the identity of individuals involved in criminal activity.
