Skin Cells
Skin cells are the body’s largest organ and the primary barrier against environmental damage. Skin cell types include epidermal cells, melanocytes, Merkel cells, and Langerhans cells. Epidermal cells form the protective outer layer of the skin and are responsible for maintaining skin hydration and protection against bacterial and viral infections. Melanocytes produce melanin, a pigment that protects the skin from the UV rays of the sun. Merkel cells are sensitive to touch, while Langerhans cells activate the immune response when the skin is exposed to pathogens. Skin cells play a vital role in keeping the body healthy and are necessary to protect against disease and damage.
