Phagosomes

Phagosomes are specialised membrane-bound vesicles produced by cells that engulf unmovable particles such as viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites. They are an essential component of the immune system and are key in providing protection against infectious pathogens. Phagosomes prevent the spread of bacteria and other microbes and help the body to fight off infection. They also help to break down foreign particles, allowing them to be recycled into useful substances. Additionally, phagosomes aid in nutrient uptake and cellular repair. Their importance in human health and their ability to play a vital role in the body’s defence mechanism makes them a highly significant component in medical research.
