Phagocytosis
Phagocytosis is a process in which cells engulf and consume external material, such as bacteria, viruses and cell debris. It is a vital part of the immune system, allowing the body to recognize and eliminate foreign substances. By engulfing and killing these invaders, phagocytosis prevents infection and helps to maintain homeostasis. It is employed by a wide variety of cell types, including macrophages, neutrophils, dendritic cells and microglia. In addition, phagocytosis is an important part of tissue repair and regenerative processes. Research in this area has broad implications for the development of new treatments for infectious diseases and tissue regeneration.
