Molecular Pathology
Molecular pathology is a branch of pathology focused on the study of the molecular basis of diseases. It combines knowledge of pathology, genetics, biochemistry, and molecular biology to diagnose, monitor and understand the progression of disease. Molecular pathology is important for better treatment, management and prevention of diseases as it helps to understand the cause and effects of diseases, identify drugs that are likely to be effective and personalized therapies. Additionally, it helps in identifying risk factors, diagnosis and providing prognostic information. A few applications of molecular pathology include identification of disease markers for cancer, diagnosing and treating infectious diseases, identification of genetic diseases, aiding in individualized therapies, and development of new drugs.
