Intraoperative Imprint Cytology
Intraoperative imprint cytology (IIC) is a relatively new technique used in surgical pathology which enables the analysis of tissue cells directly at the time of surgery. This real-time analysis can help pathologists to provide more accurate diagnoses and treatment decisions for patients. IIC provides an improved level of accuracy for the detection of malignant cells in the surgical margins, which can help to ensure the complete removal of cancerous tissue. It also offers the potential to monitor the effectiveness of chemotherapy treatments. By quickly assessing the response of tumor cells to certain chemotherapies, IIC may enable more precise and individualized treatment plans to be developed.
