Immunohistochemistry
Immunohistochemistry (IHC) is a laboratory technique used to detect specific proteins in cells in a tissue section. It is used to identify changes in protein expression that may be related to diseases such as cancer. IHC is also useful for confirming a diagnosis and pinpointing the precise location of the proteins, which helps inform treatment. This technique uses antibodies that are capable of binding to a specific protein in order to locate it in the tissue specimen. The antibodies are tagged with a label (such as a fluorescent dye or enzyme) which makes them visible under a microscope. IHC is essential in medical diagnostics and research, providing key insights into a wide range of diseases and biological processes.
