Dermatopathology
Dermatopathology is a subspecialty area of pathology focusing on the skin. It involves the study of normal and abnormal skin structure, evaluation of skin diseases using light and/or electron microscopy, and the diagnosis of skin disorders and conditions. A dermatopathologist must be able to recognize the presence of inflammatory, infective, and neoplastic processes and to be able to differentiate these entities from each other. Dermatopathology is used to diagnose skin diseases, determine the cause of skin lesions, and as an adjunct to treatment. It can help provide better results for a range of skin conditions, from common rashes to complex skin disorders.
