Cytotaxonomy

Cytotaxonomy is a field of scientific study that combines various forms of taxonomy, the study of classifying organisms, with the analysis of their cells. This field is important to better understand the evolution and relationships between different organisms. Moreover, it can be used to help distinguish between closely related species, and to conserve genetic diversity by identifying threatened species. Cytotaxonomy is also used in genetic engineering to identify beneficial genes or to modify existing ones.
