Cytogenetics

Cytogenetics is a branch of genetics that studies the structure and function of chromosomes, which carry genetic information in the form of genes. It is used to diagnose and monitor certain genetic conditions, such as Down syndrome, as well as to map diseases. Cytogenetics is also used to understand the mechanisms of gene expression, which is critical for the development of new treatments and therapies. Lastly, it is used to study the effects of environmental factors, such as radiation and certain chemicals, on the structure and expression of genes. Cytogenetics is an invaluable tool in understanding the complexities of the human genome and its impact on health.
