Adipokines
Adipokines are proteins secreted from fat cells and function as communication molecules in the body. These molecules are known for their roles in metabolic and physiological processes and have been linked to obesity, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and diabetes. Recent research has shown that altered levels of certain adipokines can be used as biomarkers for diagnosis and guide treatment of certain diseases. Manipulating the levels or activity of adipokines and their receptors may provide new therapies for diseases such as diabetes, obesity, and cancer.
