Executive Dysfunction
Executive dysfunction is a neurological disorder that affects the ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and complete tasks. It is often seen in individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders, including ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, and traumatic brain injury. Executive dysfunction can interfere with the ability to follow directions, remember instructions, and focus on tasks. It can lead to poor academic performance and can impact social functioning and the ability to lead a productive life. Difficulty with executive function can be managed through behavioral and cognitive therapy, as well as educational interventions such as adjusting the classroom environment and providing accommodations. Executive dysfunction impacts many individuals and, with the right treatment, can improve quality of life.
