Substance Addiction

Substance addiction is a disorder characterised by the inability to control the use of a drug despite adverse consequences, resulting in physical and psychological dependence. It is the most severe form of substance abuse and can have damaging health, financial, and legal consequences. Substance addiction can affect all people regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, and social background. Treatment includes behavioural therapies, medications, or a combination of these. Early diagnosis and intervention can help to reduce the harms associated with substance addiction, improve quality of life, and enable people to regain control of their lives.
