Relationship Addiction
Relationship addiction is a type of behavioral addiction that revolves around a compulsive need for attention, affection, and/or validation from another person. People with a relationship addiction tend to be obsessed with one specific person, or a series of relationships, to the point where it can become difficult to maintain regular day-to-day activities. The primary aim of treatment is to help the individual better regulate their behaviors, learn to be more self-reliant and self-validating, and to be more aware of their relationships patterns. Relationship addiction can also have significant implications on mental health, leading to depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, and even suicidal ideation. By recognizing the signs and symptoms of relationship addiction, seeking professional help, and with support and guidance, individuals who have relationship addiction can learn how to manage their behaviors and relationships in healthier ways.
