Psoriatic Arthritis
Psoriatic arthritis is a form of inflammatory arthritis that affects people who have psoriasis. It is a type of autoimmune disorder that is caused when the immune system mistakenly attacks healthy joints and tissues. Symptoms may include joint pain, swelling, and stiffness, skin rashes, fatigue, and nail changes. Psoriatic arthritis can cause changes to the joints and spine and can affect the ability to perform everyday activities. Treatment options may include medications, physical therapy, lifestyle changes, and surgery. Dietary changes, such as reducing inflammation-causing foods, may also be beneficial. Psoriatic arthritis can be managed with early detection, lifestyle changes, and proper treatment. By recognizing the symptoms, talking to a healthcare provider, and managing the disease, those living with psoriatic arthritis can lead normal lives.
