Internet Gaming Disorder
Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD) is a mental health condition characterized by a pattern of excessive, preoccupying and disruptive involvement in video games or other online gaming activities. It is a controversial disorder and has not yet been classified as an official psychiatric diagnosis. However, evidence suggests it can lead to real-life impairments in functioning and social, psychological, and physical problems. IGD often involves spending long periods of time in these activities, leading to a decline in other life activities or hobbies. Individuals suffering from IGD may exhibit signs of addiction, such as continually playing despite negative consequences, desiring to reduce or stop playing but not being able to, and needing to increase amounts of play to feel the same level of enjoyment. Treatment for IGD typically involves Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, behavior management, and lifestyle and dietary changes.
