Ankylosing Spondylitis
Ankylosing spondylitis is a type of chronic inflammatory arthritis that mainly affects the spine and sacroiliac joints in the lower back. It can cause long-term stiffness in the back, which can lead to a hunched posture. It can also affect other joints, including the hips, shoulders and other parts of the spine. Symptoms can also include fatigue and severe pain. Ankylosing spondylitis can have a significant impact on the quality of life of those affected and can make everyday activities harder. Treatment typically involves medications to reduce inflammation and improve quality of life. Surgery can sometimes be required to repair damage caused by the disease. Ankylosing spondylitis is a condition that requires long-term management, and early diagnosis is key in order to get the best outcomes.
