Anhedonia

Anhedonia is a condition characterized by the inability to experience pleasure from activities usually deemed enjoyable. It is one of the primary symptoms of depression, and can have a significant impact on quality of life. It can manifest itself as a diminished interest in or pleasure from activities such as hobbies, social activities, family life, or sex. Its prevalence is estimated to be around 8.5%, and it is more common in women than men. Anhedonia can be treated through cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, psychotherapy, and medication. Treating it can help individuals to become more engaged in activities which improve overall mental health, providing the potential to build a greater sense of satisfaction and meaning in life.
