Addiction Science

Addiction Science is an interdisciplinary scientific field focusing on understanding the causes, consequences, and treatments for substance use disorders and addictive behaviors. Its mission is to advance knowledge about the biological, psychological, social, and environmental factors that lead to, perpetuate, and increase the risks of developing or maintaining substance use disorders and addictive behaviors. The research conducted in this field has multiple benefits for public health, including understanding how to reduce substance use-related harms, providing more effective treatments for individuals affected by addiction, and identifying preventative interventions for reducing risk of developing an addiction.
