Human Factors Engineering
Human factors engineering (HFE) refers to the scientific field of study dedicated to understanding the physical, cognitive, and psychosocial elements that affect how people interact with systems and machines. HFE examines how the design of products, processes, and services can optimally take into account human behavior, capabilities, and limitations in order to improve safety, increase efficiency and reduce user errors. This interdisciplinary field, which draws from psychology, engineering, ergonomics and cognitive science, has important implications for many industries including healthcare, manufacturing and transportation. By incorporating HFE principles, organizations can create products, processes, and services that are more intuitive and easier for humans to utilize at work and in everyday life.
